SOLAR REBATE CALCULATOR

Calculate the maximum ‘Solar Rebate’ you can get when buying a solar power system.

Let's Calculate!

How it works

There is a financial incentive available when you buy solar. The government calls it the ‘STC scheme’, but most people know it as the ‘Solar Rebate’, so for the rest of this page we’ll call it ‘the rebate’ even though technically it is not a rebate.

The rebate depends on:

  • How many solar panels you are buying
  • Where you live
  • The year of installation

The rebate is almost always already included in the prices you are quoted for or see advertised for solar.

Rebate Calculator

You are in
Zone 1 is highest rebate, 4 is the lowest.
Zone Multiplier:
  • Why we need your postcode

Four zones are used when calculating your rebate.
The sunnier it is where you live, the more you get.
We use your postcode to work out your zone.

A color-coded map of Australia divided into three weather zones: Zone 1 (green), Zone 2 (orange), and Zone 3 (yellow). Major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth are plotted on the map.

  • Why can’t I have a system larger than 100kW?

The rebate is only for solar systems 100kW or smaller.

  • Why is the default 10kW ?

Pairing a 5kW inverter with 6.6kW of panels is an out-of-date practice. Depending on your DNSP, it’s sometimes easier to get permission to connect to the grid. Export limits for single-phase sites don’t go over 5kW, so they slap 6.6kW of solar on the roof because it’s perfectly oversized at 133% to a 5kW string inverter.

The energy needs for a family of four just aren’t met with 6.6kW of solar on the roof. 10kW has become the new standard.

  • Why this matters?

The rebate is gradually being phased out. It is reduced on the 1st of January every year until it goes to zero in 2032. If you are getting your solar next year you will get less rebate than this year. The date used in determining your rebate is the date of installation, not the date you place the order.

Slide to change STC price: $

Your rebate is: $

Max value: STCs x $ = $

Your Result Breakdown

The rebate is based on things called Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs).

You are entitled to: STCs

The maximum theoretical price you can get for STCs is $40 each. But this is rare.

Usually, you will get $35 – $38, or less if there is a run on solar panels.
