How does solar work?

Learn the basics of this incredible technology

Solar power uses Photovoltaic Cells to capture the energy of the sun in the form of DC energy. The DC energy is converted via a solar inverter to AC energy, this AC energy is what is used in your home.

Your inverter is wired into your main switch board where the AC energy is utilised in your home first and if any excess energy is available it will be sent to the grid in exchange for a ‘feed in tariff.’

If a battery is utilised on the home the excess energy will be stored for night time use opposed to being sold to the grid.

What About Your Solar Panels?

In the end, it’s all about your return on investment. How much electricity does your photovoltaic system produce in total over the course of an entire day or year — and at what cost? Sunpower’s Performance 3 Black on Black solar panels in Sydney, takes mature, cost-efficient technology and optimises it to give you superior value for your money. It’s a combination of high efficiency, high power ratings, and maximum yields at competitive prices that gives you one of the best solar deals under the sun.

Sunpower panels supercharges ordinary solar cells and modules to deliver exceptional performance under real-world conditions. Sunpower Solar Panels generate more power when the sun is rising, setting, or even behind clouds. You’ll also see higher yields in the middle of hot and sunny summers, and during clear fall and winter days, when the sun is not as high in the sky. We enhanced low-light performance, but also the output of our modules across a range of temperatures – all to bring you better returns.

String Or Microinverter System?

A String inverter system is the most commonly used system due to the simple setup and lower cost. Each panel is strung together and the DC energy they produce is fed into a single inverter that then converts the energy into AC energy. This means that if one panel starts under-performing, all of the other panels will start under-performing as well.

In a Microinverter system each panel has its own smaller inverter installed underneath. The DC energy is converted to AC energy at the panel, meaning that if one panel starts under-performing only that panel will be affected.

Here at Penrith Solar Centre, we choose to install Enphase Microinverters. They are an industry leading product, known for quality and reliability. You can see more information about them here:
